Sants station has been invaded with herbal aroma and caramel flavor. The responsible was Ricola who, with the desire to bring her story to the locals, installed a spectacular greenhouse in the Plaza dels Països Catalans in Barcelona. The 13 original recipe herbs that make a Ricola candy could be seen (and smelled) in the two beautiful vertical gardens of the space. And it is that much of the population knows this mythical brand of cough candies or sore throat, but few know the true history of the brand, nationality and origin and, above all, The formulation of natural herbs in its wide range of flavors and products.

The story starts in Laufen, a Swiss town surrounded by green mountains where in 1930 the baker Emil Richterich who, with the ingredients he had at his disposal, investigated the healing properties of natural herbs until he found a mixture of 13 selected herbs in an almost magical recipe, creating and marketing the first candies. Emil founded a workshop and the company Richterich & Company Laufen (yes, if you take the first two letters of each word Ricola forms), thus being born the first generation of a business that is still familiar today.
